The start of a new decade and new year is always filled with goals to try to achieve or maintain throughout the calendar year. This year I want you to make one of your goals to be organized. This can be in all aspects of your life, or only one. I would like to focus on home/your space organization.

Whenever goal setting I like to write out my end goal and the timeline that I want to achieve it in. For example if I want a more organized home by the end of December I would write- “A more organized home by December 2020”. The next step is figuring out how much time there is to achieve this goal. In this example there is 12 months. After this I define what organization is to me and I write down the steps I would need to take to achieve this. (Ex. Have all rooms in my house organized in a way that works for me. These rooms include entranceway, kitchen, living room, family room, bedrooms, bathrooms, and the basement.) Next I would write down specifically what I want to achieve per room. By doing this I have a visual layout of everything that needs to be done, and I did this in a way that did not start out too overwhelming. After completing this step I create a rough timeline of when I am going to be doing each step. Seeing each step broken down and divided into months really helps make the end goal not as daunting and as large as it started out to be. As that month approaches and I know my own schedule/events for the month I go back to my planning and write down tasks to have done at the end of each week to ensure I meet my goal for the month and the year.

Something to consider while goal setting this is to be practical. As nice as it is to think that I could achieve my goal in a shorter period of time it is sometimes not realistic for certain lifestyles and can lead to disappointment and a decrease in motivation. Take in to account the amount of hours you work each week, the amount of sleep you want to get, your other commitments, and downtime. Come up with an honest amount of hours you can spend per day/week working on this goal and use that when figuring out your timeline.

Try to get a friend or other household members to do this with you. Having someone with the same goal as you can help generate motivation and hold you accountable to achieve your goals. If you decide to set this goal, I encourage you to share the process with me. You can tag my Instagram in photos/stories, send me messages, or email me.

Good luck with the organization!
